What is the water scale?

Water scale, refers to the white block or powdery substance gradually formed in the container (such as pot, etc.) after the hard water is boiled with minerals contained in it. The main components are calcium titanate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium titanate, calcium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, etc.

Formation of water scale

At high temperatures, evaporating water causes slightly soluble calcium sulfate to precipitate. The water’s carbonates react with calcium and magnesium ions to create insoluble calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, known as water alkali. As evaporation continues, the concentration of water and alkali increases, leading to the formation of water scale when saturation occurs.
